Peplink is always rolling out new features and capabilities for their devices. Sometimes, keeping track of everything can be a little overwhelming. Check out the guide below to learn about some of the latest features unlocked by Peplink Firmware 8.3.0.
Synergy Mode
Synergy mode makes Combining links from multiple Peplink routers easier than ever by making it possible to connect multiple Peplink routers and control all the WAN links from a single router interface. This feature is available at no additional cost for devices with active PrimeCare or EssentialCare subscriptions.
Dynamic Weighed Bonding
Dynamic Weighted Bonding is an incredibly powerful tool. It provides dramatic increases in performance for Starlink and cellular connections. With Firmware 8.3.0, Dynamic Weighted Bonding is more capable at packet handling, which has shown to increase speeds by as much as 50%.
Cellular connections and Starlink experience frequent variations in speed and latency. Traditional bonding doesn’t address those variations very effectively. Dynamic Weighted Bonding intelligently recognizes when one of the connections is lousy and combines available connections in a more intelligent way, greatly reducing bandwidth overhead.
New tunnels created on 8.3.0 firmware will use Dynamic Weighted Bonding by default. Existing tunnels will continue to use the original Bonding algorithms.
Two Antenna Mode
This firmware update makes it possible to upgrade to a 5G router without immediately upgrading antennas. For 5G devices, using 4 antennas is standard. However, a customer with a preinstalled antenna for an LTE/LTE-A Router can now connect that antenna to a new 5G router and utilize Two Antenna Mode. Of course, there is a reason that using 4 antennas is standard for 5G. Performance is better. However, if the customer is willing to accept a slight performance loss, they can now connect just 2 antennas to start. Note: This feature is only available on devices with SKUs ending in -GH.
Balance 20X Wi-Fi WAN is now included with PrimeCare
It is no longer necessary to purchase a WiFi WAN license for the Balance 20X, provided the device has an active PrimeCare subscription.
GPS Deactivation Options
There is now an option to turn off GPS and GPS forwarding services to comply with enterprise security requirements.
GUI unification
The looks and features of the Web GUIs have been updated to be consistent across all the MAX and Balance platforms.
Cellular Settings Update for 5G devices
Signal threshold settings, bandwidth allowance, carrier selection, monitor band channel widths, and intelligent, automated SIM card priority management have all been added to the cellular settings for Peplink’s 5G routers.
